Check a New Jersey address

This tool checks a street address against NJGIN address data, so you can confirm it's recognized and see how the state's records describe it.

Look up an address

Built transparently on New Jersey's own address data

This tool is also a working example for developers of what NJGIN-backed address lookup can return. Every field NJGIN provides for a match is available, not just a citizen-friendly summary.

Address data comes from NJGIN, the New Jersey Geographic Information Network. Thank you to the New Jersey Office of GIS for making this address data available.

Features, benefits, and limitations

  • Features

    • Checks a street address against NJGIN's official New Jersey address data.
    • Works without JavaScript, enhanced by a combobox that suggests matching addresses as you type.
    • Distinguishes a confirmed match, an ambiguous match, and no match, instead of a single yes-or-no answer.
    • Discloses every field NJGIN returned for a match, not just a citizen-friendly summary.
  • Benefits

    • Confirms in seconds whether an address is recognized in the state's own GIS records.
    • Lets developers evaluate what a NJGIN-backed address lookup can return before integrating with NJGIN directly.
    • Produces a shareable, linkable result for every lookup.
    • Built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, so it works with a screen reader, keyboard only, or magnified text.
  • Limitations

    • Covers New Jersey street addresses only.
    • A no-match result doesn't prove the address doesn't exist. NJGIN's coverage can omit addresses on privately named roads and similar cases outside its official datasets.
    • An ambiguous match means this tool isn't fully certain it found the right address.
